Steve Harwell, the lead singer for Smash Mouth, has sadly died.
According to TMZ, the musician passed away over the weekend after it was revealed he had been in hospice for liver failure. He was just 56.
The news comes just a day after it was revealed that Steve had just days to live following his long battle with alcohol abuse, which led to the final stages of liver failure.
The outlet reports that Steve died on Sunday morning (September 3) at his home in Boise, Idaho, and he was “surrounded by family and friends and passed peacefully and comfortably.”
Smash Mouth rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with help from their smash hit, “All Star”.
The band later went on to cover The Monkees‘ hit song “I’m a Believer” which was heavily featured in the Shrek movies.
Our thoughts are with Steve‘s family during this difficult time.
