Miley Cyrus Talks Chemistry With Ex Liam Hemsworth in 'The Last Song,' Recalls Casting Him

Miley Cyrus is looking back on the very beginning of her relationship with ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, which started while they worked on The Last Song together.

The pair played a couple in the 2010 movie and got together in real life at the same time. They got engaged but called things off in 2013 before rekindling their love story a few years later. Miley and Liam got married in 2018 and sadly split for good the following year.

All these years later, The Last Song is a remaining testament to the start of what they shared.

In a new project, Miley recalled casting Liam for the movie and how their love story impacted the film.

In a video on TikTok, Miley explained that she was obligated to do another movie with Disney and wanted to do something not related to Hannah Montana. That led to The Last Song being selected and into the casting search for an actor to play Miley‘s romantic interest Will.

“We had gotten it down from thousands to the final three. Liam was a part of the final three,” she recalled. We all know how that ended!

Miley said that their real-life relationship did play a role in the movie. “I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real life and in real time,” she mused. “So the chemistry was undeniable and that was the beginning of a long 10 year relationship.”

In a separate part of the project, Miley looked back on the home she shared with Liam, which had a special connection to her past. The home was also seemingly referenced in one of her recent songs.
