The 56-year-old celebrity is stripping back her makeup in favor of a more bare-faced beauty.

In a new interview, she described the decision as “freeing” but also shared the emotional reason that she ultimately made it.

Pamela told Elle that the death of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel largely brought an end to her signature look. “She was the best,” she said about the MUA. “And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup.”

She stressed that the decision was “freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious too.”

There’s more to the decision, too: “Because I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite what everyone’s doing,” she said. “I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older. And I’m kind of laughing at myself when I look at the mirror. I go, ‘Wow, this is really…what’s happening to me?’ It’s a journey.”

“The shyness was something that was so debilitating. When I was little, I would wear a hat over my head and pull the hole closed so I could only see out this much,” she described on the program, via ET Canada.

Pamela added that before Playboy, she “hated the way I looked, I hated everything. I was so shy and I always thought everybody was pretty and I just didn’t have that confidence or self-confidence.”

“Then I was in Vancouver and Playboy approached me a few times and I said no. Finally I was in a situation and thought ‘Why not? Let me try this.’ Then I got to L.A. and I was horrified,” she shared. “Then I did my first photo shoot with Playboy… it was the first flash when I opened my eyes and it felt like I was falling off a cliff. It really felt like I was just… allowing, instead of trying to control. And it was my first feeling of freedom.”

Pamela concluded that after that, she was “off to the races.”

Pamela revealed in the book that she didn’t tell him about her cameo in Borat.

“I didn’t tell Bob I was in the movie, because I wanted to surprise him,” she wrote via Rolling Stone. “I forgot about the part in the film that referenced the ‘sex tape.’”

However, he wasn’t that happy to see she was part of it: “Bob stormed out, calling me a whore and worse. He was embarrassed, and his reaction was not thought through.”

“After I chased Bob to his car, he peeled out, leaving me there alone,” she then recalled. “I turned back and apologized, then asked if anyone could give me a ride home.”

When Pamela returned home, “When I walked in, Bob was smashing a photo on the wall. He said he was sick of waking up to a picture of me and David LaChapelle every day. But it wasn’t me and David — it was Marilyn Monroe and Bert Stern.”

In Borat, Pamela is the object of the title character’s obsession as he travels to America from Kazakhstan.

Pamela Anderson released both her new memoir “Love, Pamela” and her Netflix documentary Pamela: A Love Story on the same day!

The 55-year-old entertainer has had her children Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee by her side throughout her promo campaign and they have both spoken out about the projects.

Pamela‘s sons are both featured in her documentary and Brandon actually served as a producer!

“I think Brandon was a little emotional. Dylan was a little emotional when he saw it,” Pamela told People at the premiere. “Brandon‘s seen a ton of it. He’s been doing this for two years, so this has been a long process and as a mom, you never want to burden your kids. But this has kind of been a fun family project, but it had a lot of emotion tied to it.”
