Miley Cyrus released her new single “Used To Be young” on August 25, and she explained that the date was purposefully selected.
The 30-year-old Endless Summer Vacation hitmaker reflected on her history in the public eye on the new song. She even wore a Mickey Mouse shirt in a reference to her Disney Channel roots in the accompanying music video.
In a new video on Instagram, Miley explained that the song wasn’t the only thing that might evoke feelings of nostalgia. The date is also an important one to her.
“This particular date, historically, has been important to me personally and in my career,” she told her fans.

Miley Cyrus is back with new music and she’s pointing back to her youth in her new song “Used to Be Young.”
The music video for the ballad features Miley tearfully singing straight into the camera while wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt, seemingly in reference to her Disney Channel days as the star of Hannah Montana.
“I know I used to be crazy / I know I used to be fun / You say I used to be wild / I say I used to be young,” Miley sings in the lyrics of the chorus. “You tell me time has done changed me / That’s fine, I’ve had a good run / I know I used to be crazy / That’s ‘causе I used to be young.”
Miley explained the meaning of the song earlier this week.
“These lyrics were written almost 2 years ago at the beginning of my ESV,” she began.
“It was at a time I felt misunderstood. I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you,” she continued. “The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself everyday. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete.”
