Released 20 years ago, Freaky Friday is a beloved movie that started a long-lasting friendship between its stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. However, it almost looked very different!

The movie is such a hit that a sequel was commissioned earlier this year, and both Jamie and Lindsay are expected to return for it.

With renewed interest in the movie, several of its stars and others who worked on it got together with The Hollywood Reporter and opened up about some juicy behind-the-scenes secrets.

For instance, we learned that the movie almost featured two entirely different actresses in the lead roles. Additionally, a big plot point involving Gwen Stefani was going to center the script.

Chad Michael Murry opened up about getting cast and revealed that one of his scenes that still has his dad jealous to this day.

We even got some hints about what the sequel might look like!

Jamie Lee Curtis has been campaigning to get a Freaky Friday sequel on her film slate and now that she’s an Oscar winner, it’s happening!

Disney is reportedly in the works on a Freaky Friday 2 with Jamie starring opposite Lindsay Lohan as her on-screen daughter.

The body-swap movie from 2003 was a big success and grossed $160 million at the global box office. Adjusted for inflation, that comes out to $265 million in today’s money!

No details about the plot for the sequel are known as of now, but The Hollywood Reporter says the script is being written by Elyse Hollander.

Lindsay previously told the New York Times, “Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Lindsay Lohan is down to revisit one of her most popular movie roles.

The 36-year-old Falling for Christmas actress has been on a press tour promoting her new Netflix Christmas movie with Chord Overstreet.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she revealed how she felt about doing sequels for two of her teen classics – Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. Lindsay said that she was definitely down for one and teased who really got to decide about the other.

Jamie Lee Curtis is down to film a Freaky Friday sequel, and she has several ideas for how her onscreen reunion with Lindsay Lohan could go down.

The 63-year-old Everything Everywhere All At Once star told The View that she had gotten in touch with Disney about reprising her role in the beloved comedy, which originally premiered in 2003.

She added that she was “creatively wide open” but really down for an opportunity to play a grandma in the reboot.

Jamie shared a couple of ideas that she has for the reboot during another interview.

Disney has produced a new musical based on the classic film Freaky Friday and the cast has just recorded an album featuring songs from the show!

There were two films based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers, with the most recent one starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as a mother-daughter duo who magically swap bodies and have 24 hours to make things right before mom’s big wedding.

Broadway stars Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton originated the lead roles in the Signature Theatre production in October and they will reprise their work for west coast audiences next year at the La Jolla Playhouse. There are currently no plans to bring the show to Broadway, but we can only hope it will land there!

Heidi has previously starred in musicals like Something Rotten, The Little Mermaid, and [title of show] while Emma is best known for starring in Wicked and Spring Awakening.
