The Mean Girls musical movie will be coming the a theater near you instead of premiering on Paramount+ as initially planned. How grool is that?!

The musical retelling of the hit movie stars Renee Rapp as Regina George, the ruler of the popular group known as the Plastics, and Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, who was once played by Lindsay Lohan.

Deadline confirmed that the movie was getting a theatrical release and revealed a premiere date.

According to the outlet, the musical movie is set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024. The change to a theaters is a promotional campaign that worked well for the horror movie Smile last year, which dominated box offices after getting moved off Paramount+.

If you were unaware, Renee is reprising her role from the Broadway production of Mean Girls. In a recent interview, she revealed that “vile” things were said about her body by people in production.

A key member of the original cast also weighed in on making a cameo in the new movie.

The 23-year-old singer and actress, best known for starring in HBO’s The Sex Lives of College Girls and Broadway’s Mean Girls musical, just launched the Snow Hard Feelings Tour.

The North American leg of Renee‘s tour will continue through the first week of November before heading to England for a few days. She will then perform more shows in Europe in February and March.

Reneé Rapp is owning her look at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards!

The 23-year-old “Snow Angel” singer and Sex Lives of College Girls star showed up at the event donning a stylish black ensemble on Tuesday night (September 12) at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Reneé is nominated for a pair of Moonmen for Best New Artist and Push Performance of the Year. She is also slated to present an award during the show.

“Snow Angel,” Reneé‘s debut album marks her shift from acting to music, a career change that she’s very happy with.

Renee Rapp is opening up about a traumatic experience that inspired some of her new music.

During an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the 23-year-old Sex Lives of College Girls star revealed that in 2022, some sketchy friends didn’t look out for her. She ended up getting drugged and hurt in a club as a result.

The powerhouse singer revealed which song on her debut album, Snow Angel, is about that devastating time.

“I really let my judgment go when it came to the people that were around me,” Renee reflected. “We were all out, and it was just situation after situation where they were just not trustworthy, and then the next thing you knew, I was face up, laying down in a bathroom stall in a hotel bar, just waking up at 5 in the morning, completely alone.”

She recalled to Jay, “I had blood on my pants, and I was just so caught off guard…I was completely alone in a bathroom stall and I looked down at my phone and it was 5 in the morning, and I was like, ‘What happened?!’ I had missed two texts from two people I was with from 10 p.m. the night before.”

“I was drugged and I had just been missing for seven hours,” Renee shared. “I stopped being friends with those people and stopped doing as much partying as I was doing. I told my parents, told some of my friends. I explained it in a very matter-of-fact way, and they were all very concerned and I didn’t even understand what was happening.”

This personal story ultimately led to her emotional and powerful ballad, “Snow Angel,” which she worked on with writer, artist, and producer, Alexander 23.

“We started writing it, and it was just the two of us,” the actress and singer said on the podcast. “And the entire time I was writing it, I felt nothing. Until we recorded the song and the whole thing was done and I played it for my friends and my manager and everybody was like, ‘This is insane.’ But for me, that whole year of my life was inherent resilience.”

She emphasized, “I still don’t know how I feel about it. I just know that I feel weird and very resilient.”

Renee also recently opened up about what it was like to star in the Broadway musical Mean Girls and have people in production say “vile” things about her body.

She said that while she was 19 and new to New York City, she was dealing with an eating disorder exacerbated by people working on production who “would say some vile f-cking things to me about my body.”

Reneé revealed it got so bad that, before the pandemic, her parents flew to New York to try to pull her out of the show for fear of what it was doing to her health.

Now that she’s working in music, Reneé says her parents are “more worried than they ever have been, because they know more now.”

“Eating disorders don’t just go away and like, you’re healed, like: ‘Sorry, I can eat again, ha ha!’ It’s a lifelong thing. There are battles with addiction and whatever everywhere. I still struggle with it, but at least my parents know that I’ve been taken out of environments that were really harmful to my sickness, which is awesome and a huge win. They worry like hell, but they’re chilling, I guess,” she said.

She also opened up about being so candid about the situation.

“My generation and the generation that will follow mine is much more open – especially women, non-men, queer people. I do think I’ve been afforded more opportunities than women before me, men and queer women before me. This generation is still super mean to each other. But we are more outspoken – and give less of a f–k.”

She was just involved in a scary on-stage incident as well, involving Drew Barrymore.

Drew Barrymore had a frightening encounter.

The 48-year-old talk show host was hosting a conversation with Reneé Rapp during an event at The 92nd Street Y on Monday night (August 21) when a man suddenly rushed the stage.

As seen in footage posted to social media, an audience member called out Drew‘s name in the middle of their conversation, causing her to suddenly stop speaking and say: “Oh my god, yes, hi!”

Then, as Drew and Reneé started speaking again, an attendee approached the stage and seemingly said his full name to Drew.

“You know who I am,” he said, as Reneé stood up to escort Drew safely away and security stepped in to block the man from getting any closer.

“I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York,” the man added.

While the two did step offstage, they later returned to finish their conversation.

The 92Y event was to discuss Reneé‘s debut album Snow Angel, which was just released last Friday (August 18).

“I see so much about my love life online. Some of it is totally funny and doesn’t affect me, and others of it really, really f–king hurts my feelings. Trying to figure out how to deal with it,” Reneé shared with People.

She continued, “It’s definitely something that I struggle with and that will keep me up at night, and also something that I can laugh at some days. It just really depends. A lot of the things though are f–king crazy and hilarious and also very hurtful.”

Reneé went on to admit that she never thought she would find herself where she is now – publicly in love.

“I swore up and down I would never be in a public relationship and then I just found someone who I really loved and made me feel really safe and comfortable,” Reneé explained. “So then I started posting with this person, and then it became a whole thing. Now I’m like, f–k, I have to deal with the consequences of my own actions of publicly co-signing someone as my partner.”

Reneé didn’t reveal who she’s dating, but she has been linked to TikTok star Alissa Carrington since the beginning of this year.

In honor of Reneé‘s 23rd birthday in January, Alissa shared photo of the two of them holding hands on Instagram.

Then in early August, Reneé shared a TikTok of her laying on top of Alissa, while lipsyncing along to the audio, “Do you still want to be with me? Like I want to be with you, like maybe for forever!”

The Sex Lives of College Girls is back!

Season 3 of the HBO Max comedy series, created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, was confirmed back in December.

The series follows four college roommates at New England’s prestigious Essex College. Season 2 picked up with the students returning after their Fall break, tackling the challenges thrown their way at the end of season one, and facing their next semester filled with new faces, parties and predicaments.

While there’s no premiere date for Season 3 just yet, we do know at least one star is leaving, with others expected to return.

The Sex Lives of College Girls actress and future Mean Girls: The Musical movie star Renee Rapp is ready to make her mark on the music world.

After getting massive acclaim for her EP Everything to Everyone and selling out her mini-tour, the 23-year-old singer and actress is ready to release her debut album.

“Snow Angel” is the title track off the album and it’s also the lead single.

Renee explained in an Instagram post that her album had already been completed when she wrote the song, which eventually changed everything.

“a little over a year ago I had a traumatic experience. I don’t love to throw that word around lightly, so I understand the weight it holds. my last week in jersey, I texted alexander that I wanted to write about it when I got home,” Renee said. “I explained and recounted the situation in sessions with collaborators but it just wasn’t sticking. then, that night, may 8th he told me ‘I really want to write that snow song. I think it’s good, really good.’”

“so, we stayed up. we wrote it that night and recorded it the next day. may 15th we sent it to my team. while I was prepping the previously decided single video, my manager adam called me and told me to stop, and that we were changing everything. other single was out, snow angel was in. they believed in the song as much as I did… that meant everything.”

Renee concluded, “I have never been simultaneously so proud and scared of a song in my life. I’m very sarcastic and I make a lot jokes, but this one is f-cking different. this was all supposed to happen this way, and this was the song you were supposed to hear first.”

The 26-year-old TikTok superstar shared the exciting news that she will be staging a one-night-only variety show live from New York City’s Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, March 13.

The event marks one full year since Dylan began publicly sharing her journey transitioning as a trans woman in her viral “Days of Girlhood” series on TikTok.
