AI-Generated Fake Drake & The Weeknd Song Submitted for Grammys & Is Eligible for Nominations, According to Recording Academy CEO

The anonymous artist Ghostwriter could be nominated for a Grammy for a song with vocals that aren’t even real.

The AI-generated track “Heart on My Sleeve”, which mimics Drake and The Weeknd was submitted for next year’s Grammy awards, reps for the artist confirmed to the New York Times.

The song was submitted for best rap song and song of the year, and despite the use of AI, Harvey Mason, Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, told The New York Times that it was okay.

“As far as the creative side, it’s absolutely eligible because it was written by a human,” he said.

The categories are awarded to the songwriters, as opposed to the performers. In this case, the lyrics were created by Ghostwriter, with AI performances.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will air live on February 4, 2024, the Recording Academy confirmed on Thursday (June 29).

The event will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, via THR.

Grammys Add 3 New Categories for 2024 Ceremony!

The Recording Academy has added three new categories for the 2024 Grammys!

These three additions follow last year’s additions, including Songwriter of the Year and Song for Social Change.

The existing categories of Producer of the Year, Non-Classical and Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical will also be moved to the general field, meaning that all Grammy voters will be allowed to vote in those categories.

The category additions and amendments were voted on and passed at the Recording Academy’s most recent semiannual Board of Trustees meeting last month, Variety reports.

“The Recording Academy is proud to announce these latest Category changes to our Awards process. These changes reflect our commitment to actively listen and respond to the feedback from our music community, accurately represent a diverse range of relevant musical genres, and stay aligned with the ever-evolving musical landscape,” said Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy.

A GRAMMY Salute To The Beach Boys airs on Sunday (April 9) at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, featuring a ton of superstars paying tribute to the classic band.

The special will run from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, and features a lineup of stars all performing Beach Boys classics celebrating six decades of their influential career.

You can watch it on CBS, and the event will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. A one-hour version of the tribute will air on MTV at a future date to be announced as well.
