Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland have all played Spider-Man, one of Marvel‘s most beloved young heroes, on the big screen in the last three decades. However, they faced some stiff competition to book the gig.

A multitude of actors have been attached to the role of Peter Parker at some point over the years.

Many of them competed with Tobey, Andrew and Tom. However, others were up for totally different movies that never got made. Interestingly, some of the celebs who were considered for the part even went on to land different roles in the franchise!

We looked back in history and pulled together 11 A-listers who had been linked to the part over the years and checked out what they had to say about their audition process. There might be some surprises on this list!

Sony is making some big changes to their release schedule in the face of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and writers strikes.

Since the actors union began their strike earlier this month, movies on the calendar for a late July release have proceeded as scheduled without any promotional efforts from their casts.

However, Sony is one of the first studios to begin announcing changes that will impact their calendar into 2024 and beyond. One movie that is part of a successful franchise has even been put on an indefinite pause.

Hailee Steinfeld shows off her chic sense of style while attending the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Gala Screening at Cineworld Leicester Square on Thursday (June 1) in London, England.

The 26-year-old Gwen Stacy actress stunned in a simple gray dress with a scooping neckline and extra-long sleeves.

While Hailee‘s dress was simple, she let her jewelry make a statement, opting for a large necklace featuring a bejeweled cross.

The cast of Venom 3 is growing!

According to a new report, Ted Lasso star Juno Temple is set to join Tom Hardy in the third entry to Sony’s franchise.

While details about the third movie, which follows 2021′s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, are scarce, it appears that Juno might be one of the first additions to the cast.

Andrew Garfield first got his turn to play everyone’s favorite web-slinging superhero in 2012′s The Amazing Spider-Man.

The 39-year-old actor’s suited up as Spider-Man twice more since then – once in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 and then yeas later in 2021′s Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the latter, he played one of three Peter Parker alongside fellow actors Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.

Andrew opened up about the role and how he felt while auditioning to embody such an iconic character in a new book Marvel is publishing.

Tobey Maguire is talking all things Spider-Man.

The 47-year-old actor first played the web-slinging hero in 2002′s Spider-Man. He reprised the role in two additional movies with Sony in 2004 and 2007 before hanging up his iconic webbed suit and moving on.

In the years since, both Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland have embodied Peter Parker in movies of their own. And then all three Spider-Men shared the screen in 2021′s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Tobey opened up about his reaction to be invited back for a fourth outing as the hero and revealed if he’d be down to make a fifth in a new book Marvel is publishing.

One beloved version of Spider-Man might not be making a cameo in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The long-awaited sequel to Into the Spider-Verse, the animated movie starring Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, is set to arrive this year.
