Paul Mescal Talks 'Gladiator' Nerves, Co-Star Pedro Pascal, Russel Crowe & More in 'Esquire UK'

Pedro Pascal opened up about the upcoming Gladiator sequel in a new interview with Esquire UK.

The 27-year-old Aftersun actor was announced as the star of the long-awaited sequel back in January. Original director Ridley Scott is back in action for the sequel, and franchise star Russell Crowe has also revealed if he will make a cameo.

Speaking with the outlet, Paul touched on some rumors about the movie, including if he was playing Russell‘s son (“nawp”) and if he would be playing a gladiator (“I can’t get into that”).

Clearly, he couldn’t share big plot details. However, he did have some other big revelations, including insight about if he had reached out to Russell for advice and a recollection about his first meeting with co-star Pedro Pascal.

The 'Gladiator 2' Set Looks Incredible in These New Aerial Photos Snapped in Malta!

A sequel to the 2000 blockbuster film Gladiator is in the works and we have some new photos from the set!

Russell Crowe will not be returning for the sequel, but director Ridley Scott will be leading the project once again. The Oscar-winning actor has responded to all the reports about the movie and explained why he thinks he should be paid despite not being in the film.

Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Connie Nielsen are among the actors who are confirmed for the movie so far.

Nothing is known yet about the plot, except that the film will follow Lucius, the son of Maximus’ love Lucilla, after Maximus’ death.

Aerial photos from the set (via TMZ) show what appears to be a replica of the Colosseum, which is being built in Malta.

The 48-year-old The Last Of Us actor is set to appear in the highly anticipated sequel for Paramount, Deadline reported Monday (May 1).

The new film, directed again by Ridley Scott, follows the 2000 Russell Crowe-led original, which earned more than $460 million and was nominated for 12 Academy Awards.

The plot is still unknown. It’s expected to arrive on November 22, 2024.

Despite the overwhelming success, Russell opened up about his movie’s script in a recent conversation with Vanity Fair. More specifically, he called it “rubbish” and explained what was wrong with it.

He also reflected on Joaquim Phoenix‘s role in the movie, revealing what made him nervous about it.
