'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Cast: HBO Confirms Actors,Three Popular Stars Left Off List as Expected

When Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon went into production on season two earlier this year, HBO confirmed the stars who will be returning for the upcoming episodes.

The series is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen.

The show’s co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer Ryan Condal said in a statement, “House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera. All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”

HBO confirmed that 16 actors are reprising their roles in season two. Three fan-favorite actors from season one were left off the list as expected, even though fans were hoping they would still return. (And no, we’re not talking about actors whose characters died!)

Every 'The Crown' Season Ranked From Worst to Best, According to Rotten Tomatoes

The Crown is on the verge of its sixth and final season.

The Netflix series chronicles the history of the British royal family beginning from the onset of Queen Elizabeth II‘s reign in the 1950s.

The Crown is unique among popular TV shows in that it casts new actors every two seasons to reflect the changing ages of its characters, as each season takes place a decade later than the last.

Lead actors include Claire Foy and Matt Smith, who portrayed the Queen and Prince Philip in seasons 1 and 2. The pair were succeeded by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies in seasons 3 and 4. Imelda Staunton and Jonathan Pryce starred in season 5.

Among other notable cast members are Emma Corrin and Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana in seasons 4 and 5 respectively, and Josh O’Connor and Dominic West, who portrayed the future King Charles in seasons 4 and 5.

The Crown has won 21 Emmy Awards from 69 nominations.

With season 6 on the horizon, here are the Rotten Tomatoes scores in order for seasons 1-5.

FYI: If you don’t know, Rotten Tomatoes ranks a movie “fresh,” when “at least 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive,” and ranks a movie “certified fresh” with “a steady Tomatometer score of 75% or higher,” and “at least five reviews from Top Critics,” among other qualifiers.

Matt Smith & Emma Laird Pack on PDA, Fuel Romance Rumors

It looks like House of the Dragon‘s Matt Smith and The Crowded Room‘s Emma Laird might be a new item!

The 40-year-old The Crown actor and the 24-year-old actress, who will be seen in September’s A Haunting in Venice, were seen packing on the PDA during a night out at a pub in London last week.

Interestingly enough, Emma‘s love life was a big focus just a few months ago when she posted a photo of Taylor Swift‘s ex, Joe Alwyn, shortly after Joe and Taylor broke up. This lead to some speculation that perhaps the pair were an item.

Matt famously dated Lily James for many years before splitting in 2019. There were reports that the pair had even tried to reconcile in 2020.
